Apron Upgrades

This isn’t the kind of apron that you find in your mom’s kitchen. An apron at an airport is the area where aircraft are parked, unloaded or loaded, refueled, and boarded. In Saskatchewan, summer is the time to maintain aprons at the Saskatoon Airport. The apron projects that have been completed and are wrapping up now include:

  • Concrete panel replacement near gate 4 and 9;
  • The filet for between apron 1 and taxiway alpha was widened;
  • An asphalt extension to apron 8 was added for GSE movement while servicing aircraft in the ground load positions;
  • Concrete panel replacements were made on aprons 3 and 5;
  • Surface and drainage improvement were made to the apron 4 de-ice pad;
  • Permanent lighting improvements for de-icing operations on apron 4 are underway and will be completed this fall.
