Construction Underway for Expanded Pre-Board Passenger Screening Capacity

Saskatoon, SK: Construction is underway at the Saskatoon Airport to accommodate a fourth lane at pre-board screening. The increased in air traffic the airport has experienced prompted the Saskatoon Airport Authority (SAA) and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to work together to increase the screening capacity of the airport in order to ensure that the passengers are screened efficiently and that their travel experience starts on the right foot. The design concepts have been approved and the SAA is proceeding with renovations.

Construction is scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the busy winter charter season around mid-December. “We look forward to the completion of this project,” says Bill Restall, President and CEO of the SAA “Our winter charter season is promising to be as busy as last year and I am sure people leaving on their winter getaway will appreciate improved processing times.”

CATSA will be required to close two screening lanes for approximately six weeks to accommodate construction. During that period CATSA will increase staffing at the two remaining lanes in order to minimize the impact on the passengers.

“CATSA is always looking for ways to enhance the passengers’ travel experience. We are pleased to partner with the SAA to make security screening as quick and convenient as possible,” said Yves Duguay, Senior Vice-President, Operations, CATSA.

“We don’t anticipate any significant screening delays during the construction period,” comments Restall. “However, we are advising everyone to give themselves a little extra time just in case.”

Travelers are reminded to pay particular attention to the regulations regarding liquids, gels and aerosols to make their security screening experience as easy as possible. Information on permitted carry-on items can be found on CATSA’s Pack Smart page at
